There are a number of short term fixes that hospitals need to deliver quickly if problems within A&E are not to get worse in the coming winter. However, more readical structural change is needed if a long term solution is to be found. This will require the breaking down of silos and fiefdoms within the NHS, social care and the wider public sector. The question is do the parties involved have the appetite, desire, skills or mandate to do this.
